Direct Support Professional

A Day in the Life…

This is not a desk job! Our direct support professionals are mentors to the individual’s we support. This looks like coaching, teaching, and building engagement within the community to create long-term life skills and success. In a typical day you are playing games, going on outings, engaging in the community, providing support for behavioral/emotional regulation, and coaching people to lead exceptional lives. At Hope, you will partner with your program manager to create individual plans, create a personalized and adaptive household, promote and aid with independence in personal care. We collaborate with our DSP’s to develop an understanding of the philosophy, purpose, policies/objectives, and the top-notch standards of Hope Human Services. Our DSPs are the best in the biz and we pride ourselves on being person-centered and creating truly exceptional life experiences!

Essential Functions

  • Have the skills and ability to engage and coach persons with all types of abilities

  • Have effective communication and problem-solving skills 

  • Demonstrates flexibility and efficient time management 

  • Consistently report to work on time prepared to perform duties of position

Requirements

  • ​Be at least 21 years of age. Have a high school diploma or high school equivalency course of study (GED/HSEC) 

  • Must be able to lift or assist in lifting – up to 50 lbs. 

  • Must have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving history

  • Able to pass a criminal background check with the State of Washington and maintain clearance during tenure of employment 

  • Maintain a drug free workplace

Company Paid Training Opportunities

  • CPR & First Aid certificate (required after 180 days and is paid by Hope)

  • Clinical program trainings including Right Response, Green Zone 

  • Therap for online documentation at completed at on-boarding

  • 75-hour training certificate (required after 180 days and paid by Hope)

  • Twelve (12) hours of continuing education credits per calendar year (required annually and paid by Hope)
