Frequently asked questions.

What is the Meaning of Supported Living?

Supported living is a type of residential service that helps individuals with disabilities or mental health needs live independently in their communities. Unlike traditional group homes or institutional settings, supported living gives people the opportunity to live in their own homes or apartments while receiving tailored assistance with daily activities, such as:

  • Medication management

  • Meal preparation

  • Transportation

  • Life skills development

  • Social and recreational support

  • Personal care and hygiene

What is a Supportive Living Service?

Supportive living services are flexible, person-centered supports that adapt to each individual’s level of independence and areas of need. These services may include:

  • 24-hour on-call support

  • Help with budgeting and financial literacy

  • Assistance with health and wellness goals

  • Encouragement and coaching for employment or education

  • Emotional and behavioral support

Our compassionate team works closely with families, case managers, and other providers to ensure consistent and coordinated care. Whether someone needs a few hours of support a week or more intensive daily assistance, we’re here to help.

When Should Someone Go into Assisted Living?

Assisted living is typically recommended when a person:

  • Has difficulty managing daily activities alone

  • Needs consistent help with medication or health care

  • Experiences safety concerns living independently

  • Feels isolated or needs social engagement

  • Could benefit from structured support in a home-like setting

While assisted living offers more hands-on care, supported living is ideal for individuals who want to remain in their own homes but still need help in specific areas of life. At Hope Human Services, we help families and individuals explore the right options and create plans that promote independence, safety, and overall well-being.
